About me – Salal Psychotherapy, P.C.

About me

I’m a licensed clinical social worker who has been working with people to change their lives for the better for 30 years. I’ve worked in a variety of roles in addition to private practice, from a child and family therapist in community mental health to a clinical supervisor of a team of therapists and an adjunct instructor to graduate students at Portland State University.

Even after 30 years, I still approach my work with rigor and awe. I am honored and humbled by the people who bring their stories to my office with the desire to make change in their lives. I seek out opportunities to continue increasing the breadth and depth of my therapeutic knowledge, especially at this time when so much good research is helping shape therapy’s future.

Why a clinical social worker?

I chose to become a social worker because my training reflected what I believed already: that change happens from the inside and out. Our internal experience is influenced by external factors–by the people around us, by our experience of our race, our gender and our cultural background, by economics and by the society we live in. We can’t individually change all these things, but we all have the power to choose how we respond to them. We can’t individually change all these things, but we all have the power to choose how we respond to them.

I am licensed to practice in the states of Oregon and Washington.
